Where am I?

There are times when we are all confused and lost. Sometimes, broken and trying to figure out how far we have progressed and the barriers that hold us back. Our lives begin to spiralize in our head and affects our mood. We may sometimes feel incomplete and feel like a failure. We remember those times when we felt we will succeed easily but corruption creeps in and destroys. We may also lose focus in life. But one thing is sure, we will find ourselves.

Where am I?

Filled with ecstasy and hope.
Filled with dreams and beliefs.
Walking into the manifestation of them
I lose these gifts
In a place unknown to me.
Where am I?

Assured Mama and Papa
Of returned pride.
I strived to fulfil these promise
Now misplaced they are.
Confused and lost am I.
Still I ask rhetorically,
Where am I?

Blood, Sweat and Tears I shed from this skin of mine
Just to make both ends meet.
My efforts become water turned into a basket.
I am cornered to a place of dejection.
Please, Where am I?

Corruption creeps in silently,
Eats my dreams like a cankerworm,
Leaves me bare,
In a state of despair.
Confusion becomes my soulmate.
Lost am I.
Where am I?

Striving still to find me.
Searching for a path to survive.
Wit beckons me.
Strength draws me.
A path I see.
A gleam of hope I see.

Now I am walking out of the unknown.
With Pride and Confidence.
Worries Disappear.
Fear Elapses.
For the question 'Where am I?'
Will become a whisper to my ear.

  1. Beautiful piece...Just extend the imagery and metaphorical piling to bring out its beauty

  2. Very thought-provoking.
Where am I is a question I constantly ask myself. I wish more people will see it the way you and I do.
    Thanks for this!

    1. That question means a lot. It is like a constant reminder of one's progress.

  3. I like the fact that the poet persona has been able to construe hope in extreme despair. It behooves individual hopefulness for a path to emerge!

  4. The imagery embedded in this piece is such that reflects daily experiences, beautifully coined and the concept of Hope in the last stanza shows, we'd survive.
    Great work!
